Design at CD Plast Engineering is made up of 5 phases: the Design brief, the product analysis , creativity , maturity and Design assistance phase .

STEP 1

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN : THE BRIEF

In our technical design office specializing in the design of industrial products, the brief is the first step in the design activity.

It will serve as a reference and foundation for the construction of a project. The objective of this brief is to know the limits not to be exceeded and to be in phase with customer requests. It is always very difficult for us (designer) to immerse ourselves in a project without knowing its history, its field of application… All the more so since very often the client asks us to design the ideal product in his eyes , but with little time and less knowledge than him on this subject. It is therefore important for us to keep in mind as much information as possible about this project, even the most trivial data have their say! This work is often carried out with the client during the first meeting. It is very important for the smooth running of a project.

What is its content ?

Each project generates a Design brief with different content. Overall, we find the market analysis, the target, the overall budget and especially the problem of the project that justifies the request for a design study. We will also ask what the customer absolutely does not want and know the message they want to convey through it.

STEP 2

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN : PRODUCT / CONTEXT / USE ANALYSIS PHASE

In our technical design office specializing in the design of plastic parts, the product design analysis phase is essential.

This second step will serve as the first design orientation. For this we analyze the client’s request and put it into shape.

So we start by “comparing” related products and competitors, it is very important for us (designer and / or designer) to know what competitors are doing, and to know what customers like and don’t like about them. Thereafter, we imagine a scenario of use of marketing and / or use, in order to be as close as possible to the demand of future users. Finally, we write the formal writing guide with its semantic cloud. This guide is very often supplemented with a trend board. This will help to give a visual direction to follow in the design of the product. This work requires having iterations with the client in order to have a design orientation that is as close as possible to what he wanted.

STEP 3

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN : CREATIVITY PHASE

In our technical design office specializing in the design of plastic products, the creativity phase is the most important part of a design project.

It is in this phase that the concept research work really begins. We start by making many loose sketches in order to develop our creativity, there should be no technical restrictions. From this work, we identify areas of research that are directly related to the solution hypotheses. Each research axis has its solution (s), we make sure to provide 2 to 3 solutions / concepts per product.

Following these different stages, we carry out a 3D modeling in principle in order to give the client the potential to easily project himself in the choice of his concept. These models will generate realistic renderings of the product and thus give a complete picture of it. They will also serve as support for the study pole in carrying out the final 3D modeling (including draft, part cutting, etc.). A principle model is also proposed in our approach in order to validate the forms, the dimensions, the ergonomics… At the end of this phase the customer must retain a single concept among those which we proposed to him, to then begin the next step .

STEP 4

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN : MATURITY PHASE

As mentioned earlier, this phase follows the choice of concept by the client. Once the concept has been selected, we will develop / deepen it so that it is viable and that it integrates all the elements that compose it. This stage is less prominent for Design than for the R&D department . The designer will serve as support for the designers and will adapt the modifications so that his initial design is not too much impacted by the technique. It will also bring its “artistic” touch in the marking of the logo on the product as well as the validation of the choice of materials and colors (pre-established during the previous phases). The iterations between the designer draftsmen and the designer will therefore be significant and numerous. The maturity phase is in a way a phase of optimization of the concept proposed at the end of creativity. Renderings as well as an attractive presentation will be delivered to the client at the end of this stage.

STEP 5

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN : DESIGN ASSISTANCE

Our work does not end here, we also support you in the industrialization / manufacture of the product. Our role will be to control the respect of colors, cut out parts, marking (logo, writings …), joint planeIt is important for us that the customer is satisfied with their final product, and that it also meets our expectations.
